A THOUSAND HEARTS
About THE SONG
A Thousand Hearts is one of those "experiments we think are worth sharing" and it comes with a story.
While experimenting with music one evening and sharing a rough song arrangement with some friends, the conversation turned to a church group event they were helping organise for the following Saturday.
The event would bring together ladies aged 11 to 92 (which, as it turned out, became five months to 92 years!) with a simple but ambitious goal: to handcraft as close to one thousand small fabric hearts as possible.
These hearts would then be gifted to people facing some of life's most difficult challenges — those experiencing grief, families affected by serious childhood heart conditions, parents who had lost a child, those unable to have children, and families impacted by suicide.
Each heart would be shared as a symbol of kindness, healing, hope, and connection. A small gesture that can mean so much. A simple message from one stranger to another saying, "Your grief matters. You are not alone."
Then came the question:
Could a song for the event be written in time?
Challenge accepted.
Because it was so specific to the event that inspired it, A Thousand Hearts was never originally intended for release. But we loved the message behind it, and the song seemed to resonate with everyone who heard it. So, some nine months later, after a little modernisation and a new production, A Thousand Hearts was given a second life.
We hope it reminds people that even the smallest acts of kindness can leave a lasting mark, and that sometimes a little handmade heart can carry a very big message.
